Matt has been with The Gus Bates Company as an employee benefits broker since May of 2002. He works with both new and existing clients to help design benefit packages that best fit their needs, on both fully insured and self-funded platforms. Matt is a Chartered Benefit Consultant with experience implementing H.S.A's, H.R.A.'s, F.S.A.'s and various other consumer-driven plans. He also enjoys "thinking outside the box" to help his clients obtain coverage above and beyond their current plan design... often while simultaneously reducing overall costs! Matt holds his General Lines - Life, Accident, & Health; General Securities Representative (Series 7); Uniform Securities Agent (Series 63); and Property/Casualty licenses. Matt is also a registered representative of NFP Securities, Inc.
Born and raised in the Fort Worth area, Matt attended high school at Aledo and spent his first undergraduate semester at TCU. He then moved to Abilene, and in May of 2002 graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a BBA in Finance & Leadership. While at HSU, he held a 3.5 GPA and was a two-time NCAA All-American offensive lineman for the HSU Cowboys football team. Matt also worked 20 - 30 hours per week for Lowe's Home Improvement and for Farm & Ranch Healthcare.
In the Spring of 2006 after two years of evening classes, Matt received his MBA from Texas Christian University in Finance. He is very involved in numerous industry organizations such as the Fort Worth Association of Health Underwriters and the National Association of Alternative Benefits Consultants.
Matt and his wife Sarah live in southwest Fort Worth. Sarah is a dentist and a graduate of both HSU (Abilene) as well as the University of Texas Dental School (San Antonio). In his spare time, Matt enjoys spending time with Sarah, fishing, hunting, camping, and various building / remodeling projects. |
